Decorating your kid’s room with a theme they love often comes up against a different kind of challenge – how can you make the space inviting for them and still appealing for you?
Striking a balance isn’t as difficult as you might think – and it doesn’t have to be expensive, either.
So, what’s your first step?
Pick a theme. Ask your kids what they’re into. Is it Minecraft or baseball? Space travel or blooming flowers? Maybe it’s a favourite colour, an animal, or a comic book character.
Whatever they choose will be a jumping off point for your design scheme, and their choice will help to establish the colours and textures you may wish to incorporate.
Now that you’ve decided what the theme is, the next step is determining a budget, and stick to it.
If your budget is on the tight side, change up the bedding or add wall decals for a quick room transformation.
If you’re willing to spend a bit more, a wall mural is something to consider. Another cool option is decorating your floor. For a sports fan, you can use artificial grass, or consider coloured turf to match other themes.
Chalk paint is always a hit with children of all ages, and window coverings that are cordless and automated are not only safe, but also a great way to change the look of a room without committing to a major overhaul.
Something else to keep in mind when decorating your kids’ spaces - their current passion for Lego, Spiderman, Frozen - or whatever else - can be amazingly short-lived.
